Terminology

Use these terms to distinguish what you define, what the product runs, and what you keep.

Query

A query is the keywords, date range, filters, and adjacent-sentence behavior that specify what text NL Analytics evaluates. The query string is the keywords, phrases, Boolean logic, exclusions, and wildcards entered in the query field.

Dataset names, selected measures, display settings, and export options are not part of the query.

A search is a metered execution that creates or updates a dataset. An initial run, refresh, edit and rerun, combination, or comparison each counts as one search against plan limits.

Use search for the action or usage event, not for the object you open, refresh, export, share, or delete.

Dataset

A dataset is the durable object created or updated by a search. It contains measures and can be reviewed, refreshed, unlocked, compared, and exported.

An initial run, edit and rerun, combination, or comparison creates a dataset. A refresh updates the same dataset with the most recent available earnings calls.

Measure

A measure is a variable in a dataset, such as Exposure, Risk, or Sentiment. The core measures are transparent sentence counts, not percentages, probabilities, forecasts, or causal estimates.

Curated Measures

Curated Measures is the name of the NL Analytics library of maintained curated datasets. Use the brand only in the plural; one entry is a curated dataset, and the variables inside it are measures.

Living dataset

A living dataset is the refreshable dataset available through a plan. It follows the latest available earnings calls and may be newer than a frozen vintage.

Unlock

To unlock a dataset is to make additional downloadable cuts available. The cuts depend on the dataset, the context, and the user's plan.

Vintage

A vintage is a frozen, citable version of a curated dataset. Its released files do not change; a correction creates a patched version, such as v2.1.1, while a refresh or methodology change requires a new vintage.

Current vintage

The current vintage is the newest frozen vintage available to acquire once vintage access launches. Acquiring one pins access to that version; a later current vintage does not replace it.

Index

An index is the headline aggregate time series shipped with a curated dataset, named NLA [Theme] Index.

Example: your dataset

Suppose a lithium-supply query contains a keyword expression, a date range, sector filters, and adjacent-sentence behavior. Running it creates a dataset with Exposure, Risk, and Sentiment measures. Refreshing updates that dataset; editing the query and rerunning creates a new one.

Example: a curated dataset

Country Risk is a curated dataset in Curated Measures. It contains per-country measures and a living dataset. When vintages become available, each release will freeze a citable version of the dataset. Its headline series is the NLA Country Risk Index.
